About the Pixel Style
In digital imaging, a pixel—or picture element—is a physical point in a raster image or the smallest addressable element in an all-points-addressable display device; it is, therefore, the smallest controllable element of an image displayed on a screen.
Early electronic devices were limited by resolution, and every pixel was precisely defined. In the mobile internet era, with the continuous improvement of screen resolutions and smoother lines, "pixel" has gradually become synonymous with "retro."
Yet, pixels have not vanished from public view; on the contrary, they have become increasingly popular. Lego bricks, mosaic tiles, Rubik's Cube art, and handmade pegboard bead designs are all extensions and applications of the pixel style.
The Family Computer
The popularity of the pixel style is inseparable from the evolution of pixel-based gaming platforms. In the early days of video games, the arcade reigned supreme. However, in 1986, it was superseded by the Family Computer (FC). When released internationally, it was renamed the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Its arrival had a profound impact on the video game industry.
From arcades and the FC to the later handheld Game Boy, these platforms popularized pixel-based games everywhere—from city streets to quiet neighborhoods. Many classic titles, such as *Mario*, became shared childhood memories for countless gaming enthusiasts.
