THE EFFECT:
You present a tube with a cord running from one end to the other. Different colored pom-poms are attached to the ends of the cord.
You pull the cord from one end and then the other to demonstrate that there is no connection between the two ends… and then the magic begins!
With a simple gesture, you pull on a cord that extends to an enormous length, causing the other end to rise. Whichever cord you pull next, it lengthens dramatically, giving the impression of at least six separate cords.
With endless, comical variations, you leave the audience increasingly perplexed and amused. For the grand finale: you lengthen both cords simultaneously, then split the tube in two to show that there is no connection between the cords. The effect is striking!
You reassemble the tube, resume the pulls… and take a bow to applause!
